Cement Types

Type I/II Low Alkali Cement

A general purpose cement meeting the requirements of ASTM C 150 for Type I, Type II, and Type II (MH). GCC’s Type I/II LA cement contains no more than 8% tricalcium aluminate (C3A) for moderate sulfate resistance. Type I/II LA is widely used in concrete construction including paving, bridges, floors, building foundations, walls, residential flatwork, soil stabilization, and various precast concrete products.

Type III Low Alkali Cement

Is chemically and physically similar to our Type I/II LA cement except it is ground finer to develop higher early age strengths. GCC’s Type III LA is used in applications where rapid strength gain is needed, such as, precast and structures or pavements that need to be put into service quickly.

Type V

A high sulfate resistant cement that contains no more than 5% C3A and is used for concrete construction with severe sulfate exposure. GCC’s Type V cement is typically used where concrete will be in contact with soils or groundwater containing high sulfate levels or in structures where concrete will be exposed to sulfates.

Class G and Class C Cements

GCC’s oil well cements are designed for the extreme temperature and pressure conditions of the oil well evinrionments. GCC’s oil well cements meet the demanding requirements of API Specification 10A, such as, predictable thickening time, low viscosity, low free fluid, fluid loss control, and strength. Oil well cement is used in the production and exploration of oil and gas wells. Class G oil well cement is used for deep wells applications. Class C oil well cement is used in shallow wells. Oil well cements are the primary component in specially designed slurries that are circulated downhole through the inside of the casing and into the annulus between the outer surface of the well casing and the geologic formation. The slurry is then forced back toward the surface from the bottom of the borehole thereby filling the annulus. Once the slurry hardens, the casing and hardened slurry are perforated at the formation of interest, or pay zone.
